The C5 Corvette was a major upgrade from the outgoing C4. Chevrolet's all-new LS1 replaced the LT1 in the previous generation and allowed for 50-50 weight distribution. The engine put out 345 hp, which was bumped to 350 hp in 2001. The chassis was more refined too, and reduced squeaks and rattles common to the C4. And, for the first time since 1962, the Corvette had a usable trunk. A little-known fact, the C5 Corvette was the last production car to wear pop-up headlamps.
